미국매체 롤링스톤, FOX NEWS 진행자 터커 칼슨 발언 보도

미국 FOX 뉴스 진행자가 그룹 방탄소년단(BTS)이 미국 백악관을 예방한 가운데 이를 조롱하는 발언이 나와 논란이 되고있다. 미국 매체 롤링스톤은 1일 미국 폭스뉴스 진행자 ‘터커 칼슨이 백악관에 초청된 BTS를 모욕, 팬클럽의 분노를 사다’(Tucker Carlson Invites Wrath of ARMY After Insulting BTS White House Visit)라는 제목의 기사를 보도했다.
그는 한국 방탄소년단이 지난달 31일 백악관을 방문해 반아시안 증오범죄 대응 방안에 대해 논의한 것과 관련한 조롱성 발언으로 논란이 됐다고 전했다. 칼슨은 폭스 뉴스 ‘터커 칼슨 투나잇 쇼’에서 “조 바이든의 상황이 외부적으로, 내부적으로든 매우 나빠졌다, 그들은 이에 대해 무엇을 하고 있나”라며 “오늘 백악관에 한국 팝 그룹을 초대했다”라고 말했다. RM이 백악관 브리핑룸에서 ‘오늘 반아시아 혐오 범죄, 아시아인의 포용, 다양성의 중요한 문제를 논의하게 되어 매우 영광’이라고 말한 것에 대해 “그래, 그래서 우리는 미국의 반아시아 혐오범죄에 대해 토론할 한국 팝 그룹을 모았다, 잘했다”라고 비꼬았다.
그는 자신의 트위터에도 “언론조차 더는 무시할 수 없을 정도로 백악관 상황이 좋지 않다”고 적었다. 이에 팬들은 조롱성 발언을 한 터커 칼슨을 향해 비판의 목소리를 높이고 있다. 롤링스톤은 이 같은 소식을 전하며 “터커 칼슨은 오늘 귀중한 교훈을 얻었다, BTS를 찾으면 BTS 팬들이 올 것”이라고 지적했다. 또한 “방탄소년단은 앤솔로지 앨범인 ‘프루프’ 발매를 앞두고 있어 칼슨의 재잘거림은 개의치 않을 것”이라고 전했다. 방탄소년단은 1일 오전 4시 백악관 집무실에서 바이든 대통령과 약 35분간 환담했다. 이번 환담에서 바이든 대통령과 방탄소년단은 아시아계 대상 혐오범죄와 포용, 최근의 한국 방문 등에 관해 이야기했다. 이에 앞서 일곱 멤버는 백악관 브리핑룸을 찾아 100여명의 기자단 앞에서 백악관 방문 목적과 소감을 전하기도 했다. 방탄소년단의 이번 방문은 백악관이 ‘아시아계 미국인·하와이 원주민·태평양 도서 주민(AANHPI) 유산의 달’을 마무리하는 차원에서 방탄소년단을 초청해 성사됐다. 방탄소년단은 10일 새 앨범 ‘Proof’(프루프)로 컴백한다.
BTS Army Fights Back Against Tucker Carlson After He Slams K-Pop Group’s White House Appearance
Tucker Carlson has made an enemy out of the BTS Army after he spoke out against the K-pop group’s May 31 appearance at the White House. The group addressed the press and spoke with President Joe Biden about Asian inclusion and representation to mark the final day of Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month.
“Things have gotten very bad for Joe Biden, both public-facing and internally,” Carlson told viewers of his eponymous Fox News show. “What are they doing about it? Well, they broke glass in case of emergency and invited a Korean pop group to speak at the White House today.”
Carlson threw to a clip of BTS member RM addressing press at the White House. “Hi, we’re BTS and it is a great honor to be invited to the White House today to discuss the important issues of anti-Asian hate crimes, Asian inclusion and diversity,” the singer said.
“Yeah, so we got a Korean pop group to discuss anti-Asian hate crimes in the United States. Okay. Good job, guys,” Carlson quipped. The BTS army was quick to push back against Carlson on social media, flooding the social media platform with memes and calls for Carlson’s head. As one Twitter user noted, “So it will be K-Pop fans who finally bring [Tucker Carlson] down.”
Each member of BTS took turns speaking in Korean at the White House while talking to the press, with Jin and Jimin expressing how honored they were to be standing for their community. Jimin said, “We were devastated by the recent surge of hate crimes…to put a stop to this and support the cause, we’d like to take this opportunity to [lend our voices].”
J Hope added, “We are here today thanks to our Army — our fans worldwide — who have different nationalities and cultures and use different languages. We are truly and always grateful.”
“We hope today is one step forward to respecting and understanding each and everyone as a valuable person,” V added. As Variety reported, over a quarter-million people tuned in to see the band speak on the White House’s YouTube livestream. The BTS Army has harnessed their collective social media power before. Last year, the massive K-Pop fanbase pooled their efforts to drown out racist messages on Twitter by hijacking the #WhiteLivesMatter hashtag.
